The activity focuses on the process of writing math word problems. As students are having fun randomly drawing cards for their noun, operation, and numbers, they are also selecting the criteria they will use to write their own word problem.

✎ Very effective for helping students analyze test questions!

You can easily differentiate by selecting which set of numbers and/or operation cards you place in the center. You can also add your own rules, such as:

• Your problem must be two-step.
• Your problem must have extra information.
• Your problem must include two different operations.
• The number you draw will be your answer

So-o-o much fun and learning for a time when it can be really difficult to hold students’ attention. -Oh, and don’t forget to have them share their problems. ♥ They love that!

• 45 Operation Cards (all 4 operations plus parentheses, brackets, and exponents for square and cube numbers)
• 54 Number Cards (From 1-digit to 4-digit plus simple fractions)
• 2 pages of blank cards for differentiation – Create Your Own (decimals, negative numbers, factorials – just meet the needs of your early finishers!)
• Student recording sheet for writing their own problems
• Student Solution Page – requires students to write an equation, visual representation, and words to solve
